Islam Faress, MSc

After completing a BSc. of Pharmacy and Biotechnology at the German University in Cairo, I joined an MSc. program of clinical pharmacy and pharmacotherapy at Sunderland University,UK. I relocated to Finland to start the research journey by applying to an MPhil. program of Translational Medicine  at Helsinki University. I worked on the thesis project at the Nabavi Lab. to graduate from my MPil. degree, which paved the path to the research fellowship and pursuing PhD degree as an extension of the research training.

I work mainly on investigating the hetero- and homosynaptic mechanisms of memory consolidation and decay. To this end I used a variety of systems neuroscience tools, like, optogenetics, chemogenetics and viral strategies of circuit mapping.
